Melting ice moves on shore

A massive ice shift damaged at least three vehicles parked near Higgins Lake this weekend.

It happened about 6:15 Saturday afternoon on the west side of the lake.

The sheriff's office says high winds push the ice ashore - sliding up a boat ramp about 75 to 100 feet.  Officers arrived to discover the ice had pushed its way into a pickup truck, and forced that truck into two other vehicles. The sheriff's office says those vehicles were moved at least 30 feet before stopping.

Due to the shifting ice conditions, crews on airboats went out on the ice to get anglers off of the lake safely, but they say no one was hurt.
