NEWAYGO -- State natural resources workers are harvesting walleye eggs from the Muskegon River as part of Michigan's hatcheries program.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment says its staffers will be on the river below Croton Dam in Newaygo County for seven to 10 days beginning about the last week of March.
The agency says the dates will depend on water conditions and walleye concentrations.
Crews will work from the Pine Street launch ramp, about a mile downstream from the dam. They'll net the fish, strip them of their eggs and milt and sent them to a lab for examination.
