Charged With 2nd OWI
CADILLAC -- Troopers from the Cadillac Post of the Michigan State Police arrested a drunk driver that was 5 times over the legal limit.
It happened at 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. Troopers caught up with 45 year old Anne Burkett of Mesick at the Mobil Station on M-115 after she struck a guard rail near the Wexford County Road Commission.
Troopers say the driver refused to cooperate with the investigating officer and was ultimately put under arrest. Burkett was taken to the Wexford County Jail where she gave a breath sample. It indicated a blood-alcohol level of .40. Due to the excessive BAC level, the subject was taken to the Cadillac Mercy Hospital where she was treated by medical professionals for several hours before being lodged in the Wexford County Jail.
Burkett was arraigned Wednesday on charges of OWI 2nd offense, violation of restricted license, failure to stop after a crash, and probation violation. This is the second time she has been caught driving while intoxicated. She was given a $5000 cash bond for the first three charges and was remanded to jail for the probation violation.
MSP Sergeant Malcolm Irwin says “Anyone driving on the road at that time could have been hit head on. It also could have been dangerous for the individual. The guardrail saved her from driving into a deep ravine. With her high level of intoxication she could have had alcohol poisoning and expired.”
