TRAVERSE CITY -- More than 500 job-seekers packed the Hagerty Center on Wednesday for the annual NMC Career Fair.
The harsh economy prompted the largest turnout in the fair’s history. People showed up looking for work.
“I'm willing to take a pay cut to stay in Traverse City. I’ll work any shift. I’ll do anything,” said Jarold Morgan, who was laid off from his automotive job in 2009.
Morgan is not alone. Several people at the at the fair shared a similar story.
“I'm here looking for work. My current employer is getting ready to shut down at the location I’m at now,” said Michael Emmott.
The bleak economy has hit hard in northern Michigan. However, there is reason for hope. More than 60 employers attended the career fair on Wednesday. The companies were looking to fill everything from career-track positions to entry-level opportunities.
