CHEBOYGAN -- A Cheboygan County school liason officer is finding new ways to reach out to students.
Deputy Ronald Fenlon, Cheboygan County School Resource Officer, is providing his cellular telephone number to high school and middle school students in all three school districts.
“Providing Ron’s number enables students to become proactive in the protection of their school and in helping those in need,” stated Sheriff Dale Clarmont. “This is a commitment to our youth, letting them know that they do matter and they can take a stance against criminal activity. The schools are theirs, and they have a right to a good education, the type of education our districts provide."
The students will have the ability to text message Deputy Fenlon via his cell phone number 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The text messages can be in reference to important school concerns such as: criminal activity, persons with weapons, drugs or alcohol, bullying, peer pressure or information that a student may just need someone to talk to.
Sheriff Clarmont wants students to understand law enforcement is there to help and there are numerous support systems in place. “It’s important that students become involved with their school, they can make it safer or provide someone with the help they need. Today’s technology will assist our students in making better and more informed choices; providing them the opportunity to become life-long learners and responsible citizens,” said Clarmont.
Deputy Fenlon also known as “Officer Ron” also has a Facebook page to reach out to students as well.
Deputy Fenlon can be contacted via his Facebook page at “Liaison Officer-Ron”, his email address rfenlon@cheboygancounty.net or his cell phone number of 231-420-3388. Students and parents can remain anonymous.
