The U.S. Coast Guard is issuing an ice warning.
Captain of the Port Sault Ste. Marie will open Pipe Island Passage. Due to deteriorating ice conditions the waterway will open effective 3:00 p.m. on February 25.
Cost Guard Cutter Hollyhock will conduct icebreaking operations to open the Pipe Island Passage, northeast of Pipe Island.
The Coast Guard is reminding all recreational ice users to plan their activity carefully, use caution on the ice, and stay away from shipping channels, which are being groomed for the opening of the shipping season.
