Fall program starts with effort this weekend
It's called the "Backpacks for Kids" program, and this year the Traverse Bay Sunrise Rotary is kicking off the campaign - by kicking the snow off of some snow shoes. They hosted a snow shoe hike out at Timber Ridge just outside of Traverse City.
The money from the registration fees goes directly to buy backpacks and school supplies. The Traverse City Sunrise Rotary makes this their number one project, and they say they're able to help more than one thousand area school kids in need each year. By this fall, the Rotary estimates they will have helped 9,000 school children in the Traverse City area since the program started in 2004.
If you'd like to help, the Sunrise Rotary always welcomes donations. They say cash contributions are best, because they can buy school supplies in bulk at a discounted rate. For more details or to find out where to donate, go to: http://www.clubrunner.ca/CPrg/home/homeC.asp?cid=1907
