Stabbing Victim's Father Files Complaint

BOYNE CITY -- Boyne City resident, Nelson Duncan says “The scars on her neck are still pretty thick. She has a hard time when people ask her, what’s that? She has to relive the whole incident.”

On April 26th, 2009, Duncan’s 9-year old daughter Adriana’s throat was slashed by a stranger in their own home, now he’s fighting back with a complaint to the Michigan Attorney General’s Office. Duncan’s daughter survived the attack. 14-year old, Michael Meza, was convicted of the crime. He’s currently serving 15-30 years in jail, but Duncan claims the way authorities handled the case was unethical.

Duncan says "When you have a daughter that has been hurt, it’s extremely hard. You want to make sure that she's getting proper care and treatment. I just want to make sure the truth comes out."

In a six page complaint filed last month to Attorney General, Mike Cox, Duncan accuses the Boyne City Police Department, The Petoskey Post of the Michigan State Police Department, and Roscommon County Sheriff’s Department of: attempting to frame his family, showing up to the crime scene intoxicated, tampering with evidence, and not notifying his family that Meza escaped from a juvenile detention center.

The Michigan Attorney General’s Office has received a copy of the complaint, however they have not contacted Boyne City Administration to begin an investigation.

Boyne City Manager says "We stand ready to assist in anything they choose to do. It’s in their hands."

Duncan says "The main factor is that we need to make sure this doesn't happen to somebody else. There are several situations here that victim’s rights were violated."

7&4 News tried to contact the Boyne City Police about the allegations, but both the chief and the assistant chief have the week off.

So what’s next? At this point it is up to the Attorney General’s Office to decide if they want to move forward with an investigation.
