Twenty-two year old Sergeant Dillon Foxx was killed when enemy forces attacked his unit in Afghanistan two weeks ago.
TRAVERSE CITY -- Silence filled the air as family members and military staff paid their respects to the flag-draped coffin of twenty-two year old Sergeant Dillon Foxx. It was a patriotic moment filled with sorrow and honor for the fallen solder.
"Lovable, funny, liked to goof around, cared about everybody, very much loved," says aunt of Sergeant Foxx, Shonna Gee.
These are characteristics that Gee says described her nephew. Besides being an American hero, she says Sergeant Foxx was her hero.
"He started out being my hero when he was like 15. We went on a bad canoe trip. He was the one that saved us all in the canoe trip. He's just fun to around," says Gee.
Gee says that was just Sergeant Foxx's nature: caring for others. That's why it didn't surprise her when he enlisted in the military.
"It was him. it was him to take care of everybody....Very smart, very, very intelligent. He's just the greatest person you could ever met. He's going to be missed so much. He's just a very outgoing person, well mannered," says Gee.
The emotional turnout awaiting the arrival of Sergeant Foxx's body proves these traits...and shows him as more than just a soldier but also a son, brother and father.
"He has a sister, Savannah and he's got a half brother and two half sisters. He does have a seven month old son that's a loss there. His son will never be able to see his dad," says Gee.
It's now up to family and friends to continue his memory and cherish his heroic duty.
"I'm just going to miss him and I love him," says Gee.
