No license needed on area waters
If your valentine prefers to be outdoors - and if you're both pinching pennies - and why not enjoy a free fishing weekend?
This weekend marks Michigan's winter free fishing weekend. Residents and non-residents alike can fish without a license. It's an annual tradition since the year 2000, and a way for the state to promote fishing and awareness of Michigan's natural resources.
Michigan has 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, 36,000 miles of river and 11,000 inland lakes. A number of activities at state parks and state fish hatcheries have been scheduled to coincide with the weekend, and many provide free equipment and bait.
