LANSING (AP) -- Governor Granholm wants to revive Michigan's main college scholarship program but it would only cover graduates who stay in Michigan for at least a year after after they complete their degree.
Funding for the Michigan Promise program was eliminated for the current fiscal year because of the state's budget problems.
Granholm on Thursday is proposing to restore the scholarship for the budget year that starts Oct. 1 but it would have a different format.
Qualifying students could get a $4,000 refundable tax credit if they complete their degrees and work one year in Michigan. It was not immediately clear how the plan would be financed.
The scholarship plan is supposed to provide up to $4,000 for qualified Michigan students over the course of their college careers.
