TRAVERSE CITY -- Starting Wednesday, the State of Michigan will begin releasing more than six and a half million dollars in American Reinvestment and Recovery funds it received for appliance rebates.
The Appliance Trade Up Rebate Program is available to michigan residents to help buy any new Energy Star or CEE rated clothes washer, refrigerator or dishwasher.
Just like cash for clunkers worked for car dealers, appliance businesses expect an uptick in sales.
And some manufacturers plan to match the government's rebates, "Not only the government rebate or the State of Michigan rebate, but there will also be rebates directly from the manufacturer. There will be maybe some in-store rebates as well that the appliance dealers may be offering. It's very possible you could have 3 or 4 rebates running concurrently at the same time," said Jon Forton of Max's Service in Traverse City.
The program begins Wednesday, February 10th and continues until the funds run out.
The amount of the rebate you get depends on the efficiency rating of the appliance you buy. Do you think this program is a good way to spend the funds? Take part in our poll below and let us know!
