ELLSWORTH -- UPDATE: 3:30 p.m. - Prosecutor now says that it was not "sexual intercourse", but "sexual conduct.

An investigation is underway at an Antrim County school, after a teacher is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage student.

Officials say 55-year-old Michael Peterson of Ellsworth was a math teacher at Ellsworth School.  The Antrim County Prosecutor, Charles Koop,  issued three felony counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree.

The criminal complaint alleges that Peterson engaged in "sexual conduct" with a 15 year old student.  The student attended the school where Peterson taught, and officials say the crimes took place in a classroom at the Ellsworth Schools and in the home of the student last month.

The investigation continues, and officials are asking anyone with information on Michael Peterson should contact Det/Sgt. James Janisse of the Antrim County Sheriff's Office at 231-533-8627, or the Antrim County Prosecuting Attorney Office at 231-533-6860.

Peterson faces up to life in prison if found guilty of the charges. School leaders say he is on administrative leave.
