Slick roads and white-out conditions

Weather contributed to at least two accidents on two busy highways in less than 24 hours.

One of those accidents happened on US 131 just north of Mancelona.  It happened around noon Friday at Doerr Road.  The fire chief says the wreck involved the driver of a jeep - and a family of four in a minivan. The Antrim County Sheriff's Office still hasn't released any details. We do know the minivan rolled over, and we're told the driver of the jeep was thrown from the vehicle. All five people were taken to the hospital with various injuries.

The other crash happened Thursday night on Interstate 75 between Gaylord and Vanderbilt. The Otsego County Sheriff's Office says the driver of a tanker was passed by another trucker, creating white-out conditions. The tanker slid off the road and separated from the tractor before it overturned in the median.  That tanker was carrying 41,000 gallons of liquid latex - but authorities say it wasn't hazardous and none of it spilled. I-75 was down to one lane all night long while crews tipped the tanker upright, and the northbound lanes were completely shut down for a couple of hours Friday morning while the tanker was removed. No one was hurt.
