Northern MI Receives Nearly 1 Million In Grants

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development announced a series of ceremonies commemorating $975,212 for northern Michigan communities.

“This week USDA Rural development was able to showcase the many ways we are helping northern Michigan residents,” said State Director James J. Turner.  “From ground water quality to public safety and improving access to health care, Rural Development is working every day in every way to improve the lives of rural Michigan citizens.”

MidMichigan Home Care in Midland today received a $461,212 ceremonial grant check for communications technology upgrades to assist rural residents.  The money will purchase 215 telemonitors, 90 laptop computers for field staff, 30 software licenses.

The Village of Honor on Tuesday received a ceremonial loan and grant check totaling $450,000 for sewer system upgrades. The money consists of an $115,000 loan and $335,000 grant and will be used to upgrade all three lift stations with new pumps, basic controls and electrical plans.  The project will serve 227 rural customers.

On Wednesday, Lake County received a $64,000 ceremonial grant for four police vehicles and a new server, enhancing public safety for more than 11,300 rural residents.

USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents.
