LANSING (AP) -- Michigan transportation officials have voted to delay more than 200 road and bridge projects previously planned for the next five years because the state is running low on money.
The state Transportation Committee approved its newest project plan Thursday.
Michigan could go from spending roughly $1.4 billion on roads this year with the help of federal stimulus money to less than $600 million three out of the next four years. The state is in danger of losing federal matching funds for roads because it doesn't spend enough of its own money on projects, and could lose money for rail and bus transit as well.
The fate of pending state bills that would raise more money for road construction through higher fuel taxes is uncertain.
