LANSING -- State regulators say 134 holders of Michigan liquor licenses didn't get stung during December sting operations meant to curtail underage drinking.

The Michigan Liquor Control Commission says it conducts annual checks of about 2,000 bars, restaurants and retailers including supermarkets, convenience stores and drug stores to determine if they're illegally selling liquor to persons under 21.

Decoys under 21 see whether employees check their identification and refuse to sell liquor to them. The commission says licensees are randomly selected for compliance, but some are chosen for rechecking if they've illegally sold to minors in the past.

The commission says law enforcement agencies aren't required to report which licensees follow the law. But some voluntarily reported the 134 licensees recognized by the agency for compliance in December.
