A restructuring of Michigan trout stream restrictions is allowing for greater protection of area fisheries. One area that might qualify is the Boardman River.
Officials with the Department of Natural Resources said Friday that they have combined trout stream restriction categories 5, 6, and 7 into the "Gear Restriction" category. They say that gives them greater flexibility when tailoring restrictions for specific bodies of water.
Part of their plan for the future is to double the number of restricted streams to prevent over fishing and grow bigger fish.
The DNR wants to know what rivers you think should be added to that list. Leave your comments on the issue below.
