Resolve to help others in 2010
While many people resolve to make their own lives better in the New Year, others may want to think about ways to help others.
The United Way has a few ideas. They say volunteer opportunities are available all year long, and they have hundreds of choices. The United Way Volunteer Center has a mission to support all nonprofit agencies and the volunteers who serve them.
Leaders say whether you have an hour to give - or a full day of your time on a regular basis, there are plenty of opportunities for all ages and abilities. That includes working with seniors, youth, schools, environmental agencies, mentor a child, do taxes, drive seniors to their doctors appointments, knit afghans, serve or deliver meals, teach sailing, coach sports, the opportunities are many!
You can contact your local United Way or a non-profit group to offer your time.
The Women's Resource Center is one group that would like you to keep them in mind. The Doula Teen Parenting Program needs volunteers to help with young children, from newborns to three years of age. They especially need help on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Traverse City High School. If you can help interested, please call the Doula Program Coordinator at (231) 947-0067.
