Thirty-one state troopers laid off six months ago are being called back to work next month
LANSING -- Thirty-one state troopers laid off six months ago are being called back to work next month.
State police announced Friday that 28 troopers are being recalled Jan. 11, 2010, thanks to federal stimulus money. On Tuesday, the state said three more troopers are going back to work at that time with money from the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program.
About 100 troopers were laid off June 28 as the state struggled to balance its budget. Under the state's 2009-2010 budget, 55 troopers were called back to work Nov. 16.
The state says the recalls will bring trooper staffing at posts to 1,029.
