LANSING (AP) -- Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm is expected to announce that school districts will avoid a $127-per-pupil cut this month.

A decision on whether the cut is needed will be made after state economists give their outlook at the revenue estimating conference in early January.

Brad Biladeau of the Michigan Association of School Administrators said he was briefed early Thursday afternoon on the reprieve. School districts already have seen cuts that are the equivalent of $165 per student this fall, and 39 wealthier districts have seen funding drop even more.

Granholm, a Democrat, in October ordered the cut of $127 per pupil, citing falling tax revenues.

Biladeau says he was told the state now has more money than expected from commercial property taxes, so the cut can be delayed.
