A Michigan Department of Corrections van is stolen by five inmates on work detail. Officials are asking residents to be on alert.
CARSON CITY -- Law enforcement officers are searching for five prisoners accused of assaulting a guard and stealing a van in Montcalm County.
It happened while the prisoners were on work detail near Carson City.
The nine passenger blue van has a Michigan government plate #100163. The five prisoners are believed to be inside the van and have access to axes and chainsaws.
Officials do not know the direction the van is heading. If you have any information you are asked to call 911 or the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office at 989-831-5253.
