Commissioners vote at Monday night meeting
The Traverse City Opera House is teaming up with East Lansing's Wharton Center.
City Commissioners voted unanimously Monday night in favor of adopting the operating agreement with the performing arts center on the Michigan State campus. They say working with the Wharton Center will help bring in newer, bigger acts to Traverse City.
While one resident shared his concerns about ensuring the community still has access to the opera house, representatives from the Traverse City Film Festival, the Traverse Symphony Orchestra, and Porterhouse Productions all say the support the partnership. Each said they've been assured that the community groups will still have full and fair access to the opera house.
The City Commission is also moving forward with its bayfront plan, but in doing so, commissioners are turning it over to another city office.
The Parks and Recreation department will handle the bayfront plan for the open space in Traverse City. That means that department will take the lead on generating ideas, leading discussions, and implementing new strategies for improving the bayfront.
