WEBBER TOWNSHIP -- Almost 100 people attended a meeting in Lake County to show their support for reopening Geo Prison near Baldwin.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons is searching for a place to put over a thousand inmates. They’ve narrowed it down to two options. Either they fill the vacant, but already built Geo Prison, or they build a new prison in Lake City, Florida.
The meeting allowed the community to react to an environmental study, which is part of the process. Everyone that spoke during the meeting wanted the prisoners housed at Geo.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons is expected to make a final decision by March 2010.
