Firearm deer season begins Sunday, November 15.
GAYLORD -- We are now officially less than a week away from the opening of firearm deer season.
Like year's past, the Department of Natural Resources will have a variety of deer check stations operating. However, due to state budget cuts the DNR says there were be fewer stations in operation.
Despite that, officials with the DNR says they are still encouraging hunters to stop by a local deer check station, bringing with them a bit of patience as well.
"They should still come to the deer check stations, we might have a little longer lines but they should be patient," said Brian Mastenbrook, a wildlife habitat biologist out of the DNR's Gaylord regional office. "We'll be doing the best we can and we'll be working hard."
Mastenbrook says the deer check stations are important because it allows the DNR the opportunity to collect information that helps them better manage the deer herd.
Firearm deer season officially opens Sunday, November 15.
