Clean Up and Green Up in Traverse City

Several northern Michigan businesses are coming together to share a common message - and a common goal.

It's called "Clean Up and Green Up" - a community wide reuse and recycle effort in Traverse City. It's sponsored by the Michigan Green Consortium, and its member businesses throughout the region.

It's a chance for area residents to bring everything from cans and bottles... newspaper and cardboard... to batteries and old appliances.  Organizers say they do it in conjunction with daylight savings time - to remind people to use that extra hour to reduce waste and keep trash out of the landfills.

While this was a one-day event - the Michigan Green Consortium says they'll do it again early next year - when you "spring forward" and set your clocks ahead one hour.
