Fellow hunters help DNR Officers track down suspects accused of shooting dogs.

On Saturday, Department of Natural Resources conservation officers responded to a 911 call regarding two hunting dogs that were shot and killed on state-owned land in Kalkaska County.

The hunter who reported his dogs shot and killed was legally using the dogs to hunt coyotes. Other houndsmen in the area, assisted DNR conservation officers with descriptions of the suspects, as well as their vehicle.

Conservation officers were able to get confessions in the case. Once the DNR completes its investigation, it will be forwarded to the Kalkaska County Prosecutor's Office for possible charges.

Anyone with information about any conservation violation should call the DNR's Report All Poaching (RAP) line at 800-292-7800. Information can be left anonymously. Cash rewards are sometimes offered for information that leads to the arrest of violators.
