Grants from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will bring four new buses to Thunder Bay Transportation Authority
The Thuder Bay Transportation Authority is getting four new buses thanks to the federal government. The $2,590,000 in grants will replace four diesel buses with four plug-in hybrid buses.
The authority will operate the buses in non-urban areas and collect data for two years.
U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, both D-Mich., announced two grants totaling $4.79 million in stimulus funds for the Thunder Bay Transportation Authority and the Flint Mass Transportation Authority. The funds are awarded to the agencies for cutting-edge environmental technologies through the Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction program of the Department of Transportation.
The Flint Mass Transportation Authority will receive $2,200,000 to replace two diesel buses with advanced all-electric Zero-Emissions GTB-40 buses. These buses, manufactured by Fisher Coachworks in Oak Park, Mich., provide more than triple the equivalent fuel economy in all-electric mode and reduce carbon dioxide emissions due to the use of lightweight materials and the large capacity battery system.
