Hundreds of people in the Traverse City area came together today to help improve life in their community.
Today is the United Way Day of Caring.
In all, about 800 volunteers donated their time and energy for nearly 80 community projects.
Volunteers spend the day collecting non-perishable foods for local pantries, baby supplies to support teen parents, school supplies for kids, as well as cleaning, painting and landscaping through-out the community.
Organizers say with the state of the economy, work like this has never been more important.
