Consumers Energy is offering a $30 rebate for people willing to turn in their extra refrigerators and freezers.
It's part of a program designed to reduce energy guzzling appliances and encourage people to purchase more energy efficient ones.
The program is currently offered in Flint and Saginaw but will be open to more Mid-Michigan towns next year.
More information on the appliance rebate program and other energy efficiency measures being undertaken by Consumers are on the company's Web site at consumersenergy.com.
The energy efficiency program, mandated by a state law, is being funded with a surcharge of about 72 cents a month for residential electric customers and about $1.70 a month for natural gas customers and is supposed to last through 2015.
