Beach Bums lead effort in food drive

WUERFEL PARK, TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse City Beach Bums are hoping you'll help put food on the dinner table - by stepping up to the plate and making a donation.

After hearing recent news stories about the shortage of food at local pantries, the Beach Bums are hoping to make a difference - and reward fans at the same time. The team will now give away one free 10-dollar ticket to fans who donate 10 dollars worth of non-perishable food items.

Those donations can be brought to the ticket office at Wuerfel Park, to the Goodwill Inn or store... or to the Father Fred Foundation.

The Beach Bums are willing to donate up to 10,000 tickets for their last 15 home games. At $10 worth of food for each free ticket - that means they're trying to collect about $100,000 worth of donations to help re-stock local food pantry shelves.
