Michigan's newest unemployment rate: 15.2%
There doesn't seem to be a "slow day in the office" at the Michigan Works in Traverse City. Employees are helping a constant stream of unemployed residents who are looking for work.
And despite the high unemployment rate, there are still thousands of jobs available across the state. The problem is - thousands more are applying.
The "Talent Bank" website (through the Michigan Works homepage) shows just a few hundred jobs in northern Michigan communities, but the manager at Michigan Works says it's a great place to start the job search. For some of the job listings, you can even apply online through a link in the job posting. She says people need to know where to look for jobs, how to look, and ask for help if needed. The staff at Michigan Works offers advice and job assistance for free.
