Event celebrates Michigan's state stone

The Petoskey Stone Festival in Eastport is held at Barnes Park on the shores of Grand Traverse Bay.

The festival celebrates Michigan's official state stone, and visitors can bring their own stones to have them polished, or you can buy one from one of 30 Petoskey Stone and gem dealers from around the country.

The day includes a Petoskey Stone Hunt, a Stone Skipping Contest for kids, and presentations on the history and geology of the famous rocks. Visitors also got to enjoy the free kids fishing pond and a visit with the local Antrim County police dog.
