A Fire Weather Watch in Effect for Tuesday
While the grass is green and fire danger is "moderate" today, the National Weather Service has put much of western Lower Michigan under a Fire Weather Watch. The watch means that dry, warm, and windy conditions are possible for Tuesday and the fire danger is expected to rise.
Once conditions become dangerous for wildfires, the National Weather Service will issue a Red Flag Warning.Officials with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources are urging people to use caution while dry weather continues. No burn permits are being issued at this time.
Officials with the DNR say the wildfire season so far this year has been about average with no consecutive days with a large number of fires. Periods of warm, dry weather have typically been followed by cooler temperatures and enough rain to temporarily lower the fire risk.
