Officials say stay away from shipping channels.

DE TOUR VILLAGE -- Around 12 p.m. March 31, a Coast Guard icebreaker will conduct icebreaking operations to open the Pipe Island Passage, north and east of Pipe Island. Pipe Island is located near the southern end of the St. Mary's River and just over a mile north of De Tour Village.

The Coast Guard reminds all recreational ice users to plan activities carefully, use caution on the ice, and stay away from shipping channels, which are now being groomed for the opening of shipping season.

For more information call the Sault Vessel Traffic Service at (906) 635-3232.
