Ice breaks while men are fishing on Higgins Lake

HIGGINS LAKE -- Two fishermen are back on dry land after falling through the ice today on Higgins Lake.

It happened Saturday afternoon in Roscommon County. Police say the fishermen were about a half mile off shore when they began to break through the ice and called 9-1-1. Gerrish Township Police and Fire along with Markey Township Fire and the County Sheriff's Office all responded to Higgins Lake around 4:45 pm.

Air boats and ice rescue personnel were able to bring the men back to shore.  The sheriff's office says the warmer temperatures in recent days have made much of the ice on Higgins Lake extremely dangerous.
