(AP) -- Michigan's unemployment rate rose to 12 percent in February, the highest mark since 1984.
The state reported Wednesday the seasonally adjusted jobless rate increased four-tenths of a percentage point from January's rate of 11.6 percent.
State officials say February marked the eighth consecutive monthly increase in Michigan's unemployment rate.
The national jobless rate also rose last month, increasing by a half percentage point to 8.1 percent.
Officials say recalls from temporary layoffs in the auto industry helped moderate job losses in Michigan.
