The Shiver by the River Starts Friday
FRANKFORT -- Preparations are underway in Frankfort for the first Shiver by the River Festival, which starts Friday and continues through the weekend.
Joanne Bartley, Executive Director of the Frankfort-Elberta Chamber of Commerce, says Saturday will be the biggest day, featuring a regional Sno-Cross event.
Up to 200 snowmobiles and racers are expected to participate in the snowmobile races, which will take place on a specially made track.
Recent warm weather has meant a shortage of the necessary snow to build the track, but event organizers enlisted the help of local organizations and volunteers to truck snow from around town to the open space.
Over the weekend, volunteers used some of Crystal Mountain's snow-making machines to try and boost the snow-pack before Mother Nature cooperated today.
With more snow in the forecast, Bartley is optimistic for this weekend's events.
Bartley says, "It's been known that Frankfort is a little slow in the winter. It's only fair that we try and do something here to get business going, bring people here, and give the locals something fun to do!"
