GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY -- It's time for the Olympic games! The 33rd annual Michigan Special Olympics Winter Games are back in Traverse City this week.
More than 950 athletes are competing at this year's winter games for the Michigan State Special Olympics. The home territory is the Grand Traverse Resort, but the winter games also include activities at Schuss Mountain in Antrim County, and Howe Ice Arena in Traverse City. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend or volunteer at the games.
The athletes compete in six different winter sports. Snowshoeing is one of the big events of the day, but there's also alpine and cross country skiing, snowboarding, figure skaing and speed skating. The competition wraps up on Friday.
