Suspect shot attacking trooper
BARAGA COUNTY -- Two people are dead after what appears to be a domestic violence incident in Baraga County Thursday night.
According to the Michigan State Police, it began around 9:00pm Thursday night on the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Reservation.
An argument broke out between a male suspect and his girlfriend. After stabbing her to death, he fled the scene.
State police troopers located the suspect's vehicle driving on US 41. He crashed the car, and refused to surrender to police. The suspect was shot after lunging at the trooper and later died at the Baraga Memorial Hospital.
US 41 was closed for more than five hours as a result.
The incident remains under investigation. Names have not been released by authorities at this time.
