LANSING -- A group of Traverse City area residents are in Lansing, protesting a plan to build a coal burning power plant in Presque Isle County.

Eight new coal plants are being proposed to be built in the state, with one planned for Rogers City.

Tuesday, the Department of Environmental Quality is holding a public hearing on the issue.

Early this morning, a group trying to stop the plan loaded up protest signs and headed to the state capitol.

The citizen's group is holding a press conference in Lansing at 11:00 with the DEQ hearing getting underway at 1:00.
