Some area cab companies are working with a local distributor to help keep drunk drivers off the road. H Cox and Son in Grand Traverse County has handed out vouchers to local bars as part of the Alert Cab's 23rd year running. The vouchers are good for one cab ride home from participating cab companies in Traverse City and Cadillac. Bartenders are allowed to give the vouchers out to patrons for a free rides. Patrons then turn the voucher over to the cab driver for a safe ride home. The vouchers can only be used to take patrons home, they can not be transported to other establishments that serve alcohol. Handing out the vouchers is left up to the bartender's discretion. The program runs until 4:00 a.m. on New Years Day.
