According to the Mortgage Bankers Association, applications rose 2.9 percent in the week that ended on December 12th. The MBA says application volume jumped because borrowers were taking advantage of lower rates to refinance home loans. Interest rates have declined, and analysts expect them to fall further after this week's move by the fed to cut the target interest rate to near zero.
