Despite increasing smoking bans in public places, and fewer people picking up the habit, nearly half of children in the United State are still exposed to secondhand smoke every week. Researchers at the American Academy of Pediatrics found 42 percent of children are exposed to secondhand smoke a week. Experts say children exposed to cigarette smoke have an increased risk for asthma, ear infections, cavities and SIDS. They are urging parents to take responsibility and make healthier choices for their children.
