Hoekstra tells news media outlets across the state that he'll consider running for governor in 2010.
(AP) -- Michigan U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra says he won't seek re-election in 2010. The 55-year-old Republican congressman was just elected to his ninth term from a district along Lake Michigan. Hoekstra tells news media outlets across the state that he'll consider running for governor in 2010. But he says the decision to leave Congress was a separate one. Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm can't run again in 2010 because of term limits. Hoekstra burst onto the political scene in 1992 when he upset a Republican incumbent, Guy VanderJagt. He promised to serve only 12 years but changed his mind and voters continued to re-elect him. Hoekstra planned to announce his plan Monday at a breakfast with senior citizens.
