Traverse City Light and Power's Red Tag Warning program charges customers a fee if they make a late payment after receiving three overdue notices. The money collected from the fees is then donated to area charities. At Thursday night's TCLP board meeting, members approved a nearly $16,000 grant to be distributed to the Father Fred Foundation, Love Inc., the Salvation Army and Northwest Michigan Human Services Agency. Since 1996, the program has given $96,000 to local people in need.
