The former Director of the National Cherry Festival could soon become a leader in Leelanau County. Tom Menzel is one of the four finalists, down from 27, for the Leelanau County Administrator position. The current County Administrator David Gill is retiring at the end of the month after six years in the position. Of the many duties included the County Administrator works on coming up with the annual operating budget plan for the county. Planner Peter Garwood of Bellaire, J. Patrick Yoder of Suttons Bay, and Robert Sobie of Olivet are also in the running. The county board will conduct public interviews in January, and the new administrator will most likely start in mid-February.
