Some kids in Traverse City aredoing their Christmas shopping, but they're not doing it for themselves. It's the 16th annual shopping trip sponsored by the Optimist Club of Traverse City. Kids from Big Brothers Big Sisters and Child and Family Services hit the local Target store to buy holiday gifts for their families. Over the two-day event, 45 kids each get to spend $75 on presents for their family, and each child is teamed up with a volunteer from the Optimist Club. Bob Simpson with the Traverse City Optimist Club says, "I'm hoping that they get a true gift of giving that they will give back as they grow older, and they come into the community and become productive members of society. What will happens is they will grow and give back to the community as we try to give back as well." After shopping, those presents are wrapped and Target provides all the supplies.
