TRAVERSE CITY -- Numbers are in from October's Shop Your Community Day in downtown Traverse City. Stores donated 15 percent of their profits to area organizations raising more than $13,000. The Women's Resource Center received more than $2,000, Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools got just over $1,100, and Father Fred's and the Boots for Kids programs received about $1,000. Todd McMillen the Downtown Traverse City Association President says, "everybody benefits from this organization and what downtown really appreciates the most about it is it's early enough in the season where it brings awareness to the community that everybody needs help in these times." The program has raised more than $50,000 since its inception four years ago.
