FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP (AP) -- The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians has spent millions of dollars acquiring land in Muskegon County's Fruitport Township, including the former Great Lakes Downs horse track. The tribe has bought an additional 10 parcels since purchasing the track in July. The Little River Band operates a casino in Manistee. Spokesman Glenn Zaring has said the tribe is exploring the possibility of opening a casino in Fruitport Township. The Muskegon Chronicle reports that filings at the township assessor's office show the tribe has spent more than $13 million putting together its 233 acres of land holdings there. Zaring has declined to be specific about the purpose of the additional land acquisitions.
